Speaker Biography

Rory Moore is a Continuing Lecturer in the University Writing Program (UWP) at UCR, and is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the UWP’s Writing and Foster Youth Alliance (WAFYA). She recently concluded a two-year appointment to the Writing 7 Developmental Writing Support team. Previously, she was Associate Director of Academics and Assessment for Long Island University’s Higher Education Opportunity Program in Brooklyn, New York; GradSuccess Coordinator for Graduate Division at UCR; and Lecturer in the Department of English at UCR. Dr. Moore has published/presented scholarship on nineteenth-century British literature, as well as on composition pedagogy, program administration, accessibility, and student success.

Audience

The assignment I present is adaptable, relevant to faculty in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, but also to those in STEM, too.

"From AI Users to AI-Aware Learners"

Description: Explores designing learning activities that build student awareness of AI strengths and flaws. Uses simple examples demonstrating how AI can sound convincing despite incomplete evidence, turning errors into teaching moments.

Speaker Biography

Karthikeyan Chandrasegaran is an Assistant Professor of Entomology at UC Riverside. His research examines how environmental conditions shape mosquito behavior, survival, reproduction, and population success, with the goal of improving our understanding of mosquito ecology and vector control. He teaches Insect Ecology and Aquatic Insects and is interested in using AI to strengthen student reasoning, assessment, and evidence-based learning.

Audience

Broad, interdisciplinary audience. Examples will be accessible across STEM, social sciences, and humanities.

"Creating AI-Aware Assignments & Assessments in Higher Education"

Description: Addresses the shift away from traditional "final product" essays. Offers a roadmap for assignment redesign using the 5-Pillars Framework to preserve student cognition in an AI-powered world.

Speaker Biography

Dr. Ann Kwinn has been the Director of Instructional Design and Quality Control for UC Riverside’s Professional and Global Education for the past seven years. Prior to joining UCR, she was faculty member and Director of Instructional Strategy at Azusa Pacific University. Ann is the co-author, with Ruth Clark, of the book, The New Virtual Classroom and has written many articles. Ann has developed and taught many courses for corporate and higher education settings on a full time, adjunct and consulting basis and has spoken at numerous conferences. Ann holds a BA from UC Riverside and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Southern California, and was a research fellow at the Educational Testing Service.
