Speaker Biography
Dr. Raymund Papica serves as the University Writing Associate Director responsible for both the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program and the Buscadores Program. As a first-generation scholar, he designed both programs to address student needs and to cultivate student growth by providing opportunities for excellence. WAC builds on the foundational knowledge gained in the entry-level and first-year writing sequence at UC Riverside and supports students as they undertake capstone projects, complete advanced coursework, and consider the practical and creative applications of their written communication skills. Buscadores, in particular, is a mentoring program that supports students as they write their application essays for prestigious programs, including graduate, law, and medical school, as well as other professions that require an advanced degree. He focuses on interdisciplinary approaches that instill student confidence, critical thinking skills, and the ability to apply effective writing/storytelling strategies across different fields of study. Furthermore, he explores “un-siloing” collaborations to build a network of support between university programs, with the aim of creating more accessible and equitable opportunities for all students.
