This session will showcase practical applications, including refining course syllabi, creating diverse examples to explain topics, structuring lectures, building Canvas question banks, and drafting inclusive announcements to engage students effectively.
Session 2: "Hands-On Practice”
Session 2 will build on Session 1 with interactive exercises to integrate AI-driven strategies into your teaching toolkit. Bring your materials, such as syllabi, sample questions, or announcements, to get hands-on experience and personalized guidance.
Details about the speaker:
Dr. Karthikeyan Chandrasegaran is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of California, Riverside. With a background in engineering and evolutionary ecology, he combines theoretical and applied perspectives to study how mosquitoes adapt to changing environments and its implications for vector management.
Dr. Chandrasegaran is also interested in the use of emerging technologies, including machine learning and AI, to enhance research and education. Drawing from his experience applying AI-based tools in his course last quarter, he will explore the role of generative AI in this AI TeachTalk series. The sessions will focus on how AI can improve teaching practices and learning experiences, particularly when integrated with existing Canvas infrastructure. Through this series, he also hopes to interact with attendees to identify problem statements unique to specific courses and contexts where AI could be employed effectively. His goal is to share insights and foster dialogue on the responsible integration of AI to optimize instructors' time and efforts in pedagogy and classroom management.
