Accessibility Guides for Faculty

Digital accessibility ensures that everyone, including people with disabilities, can access and use digital content and services. The recent Title II revision, the Final Rule, approved by the Department of Justice, requires compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards for all web content and mobile apps by April 24, 2026. Digital accessibility is all about making sure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and use online content. At UCR, we are committed to creating a digital environment where all students, faculty, and staff can easily navigate and interact with online courses and other digital content.

Why Accessibility Matters: Faculty Guides

As of April 24, 2024, the Department of Justice has decided that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which covers the grounds of digital inclusivity, extends to public higher education institutions, requiring that web content adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA standards. This includes content contained within Learning Management Systems.

The ruling defines a targeted compliance date of April 24, 2026 for institutions the size of UCR.

For guidance or support around UCR's accessibility policies, campus community members can seek assistance from the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator at the UCR Office of Civil Rights
