OVERVIEW
Education continually evolves and the pace of change can sometimes be challenging. You are not in this alone. We offer opportunities that intentionally build from a place of evidence and empathy.
We assist all instructional professionals at UCR including ladder faculty, non-tenured faculty, professors of teaching, part-time and adjunct instructors, and graduate student teachers.
1:1 Consultations
We encourage you to meet with our specialists to answer your questions and help implement your ideas. For Faculty Development and Instructional Design consultations, please email Cheryl Diermyer.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
XCITE provides faculty development highlighting inclusive and authentic pedagogical practice. We help you meet your career milestones as an innovative educator. We listen, we foster peer collaboration and community, and we focus on your goals. If that sounds super serious, we strive to do this in a way that fosters joy.
Faculty Development opportunities include gatherings like our Coffee Talks series, workshops, and the RIDLE grants and mentoring program for Rethinking Instructional Design and Learning Engagement.
UCR faculty and teaching staff - from distinguished professors to graduate teaching assistants - can benefit from the annual Teaching & Learning Week in October, hosted by XCITE. This week-long array of workshops, speakers, demos, and social gatherings provides a symposium of innovation in teaching and student engagement.
Each year we recognize professional excellence at the Celebration of Teaching awards ceremony.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
Be the teacher you’ve always wanted to be -- Design the course you’ve always wanted to teach.
XCITE has integrated UCR faculty teaching experiences with the most up to date instructional design models and developed the UCR XCITE Instructional Design (UXID) model below.
We use this evidence-based model to inform our instructional design programs, including
- The Art and Science series - a six-week course offered each Spring. The theme for 2022-2023 is “The Art and Science of Healthy Pedagogy.”
- Teaching in the Round workshops - in collaboration with Oregon State University faculty, we are pioneering best practices for teaching in a 360 degree learning space.
