Fabiola Torres, Humanized Online Instructor of Ethnic Studies, Glendale Community College

Fabiola Torres is an online Ethnic Studies professor at Glendale Community College. During the pandemic, Fabi collaborated with a number of colleges throughout the country in offering professional development workshops, online courses and keynote presentations focussing on applying equity-minded methods such as culturally responsive teaching in the online environment, humanizing online teaching and learning and Ungrading practices.  Her teaching principles are inspired by her M.A. in Chicana/o Studies from California State University, Northridge & her second M.A. in Learning Technology from Pepperdine’s School of Education and Psychology.

Alex Rockey, Faculty, Academic Technology Professor, Bakersfield College

Alex Rockey is a professor in Academic Technology at Bakersfield College. She has a PhD in Education from UC Davis. With more than 10 years of experience as an educator in K-16 contexts, she has expertise in researching how and why students use phones for learning, mobile-friendly course design, mobile learning, emerging technologies, and online education. Alex Rockey has served as the Principal Investigator on various grants from the California Learning Lab and the National Science Foundation focusing on improving the mobile experience for STEM students. Alex is passionate about the potential of online education and mobile course design to transform access to higher education and has experienced first-hand how education can make dreams come true.

Mariah Cladis, Learning Innovation Specialist, UC Riverside | XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning

Mariah Cladis is a Learning Innovation Specialist at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where she earned her Master's degree in Education and Neuroscience. Mariah has extensive experience across a diverse range of student populations and educational environments, including classroom teaching both in the U.S. and internationally. She is passionate about anything and everything outdoors, and, most importantly, equity and liberation in public education.

Samantha Eastman, Sr. LX Designer, UCR XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning

Samantha Eastman is a Senior Learning Experience Designer supporting course development and technology integration through UC-Riverside’s XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning. She has a background in various grant-funded, teacher-education initiatives that emphasize technology integration and training, and has supported or coordinated several hybrid and online faculty development programs. Her work was funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the UC Office of the President, and the California Education Learning Lab. Samantha holds an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from the University of South Carolina.

We are excited to invite you to join the first ever Mobile Design Unconference. Many of our students use and depend on their phones for learning. As educators, mobile design can provide a powerful opportunity to design courses that leverage the technology students already carry in their pockets.
