In this session, Interim Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Dr. Estela Gavosto, will kick off Teaching and Learning Week 2023 in our XCITE Commons with a discussion of what is needed to realize our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, entitled, "Advancing Inclusivity in UCR classes: Fall 2023."A full catered lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. -
3-4 p.m. | Academic Data Dashboards with Scott Heil, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Institutional Research

In this session, located in the XCITE Sandbox, Scott Heil, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Institutional Research will provide us with an introduction to and walkthrough of some of our new Data Dashboards, hosted on Power BI. Mr. Heil will show us some of the most faculty-relevant boards and provide us a chance to dive into the data together, as well as to get any questions you have about these Dashboards answered.
Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees.

A full catered lunch will be provided for in-person attendees, and the first 20 guests to arrive will receive copies of A Concise Guide to Teaching with Desirable Difficulties.

In this session in the XCITE Sandbox, XCITE’s Principle Creative Designer, Sohail Wasif, will carry out an interactive demonstration of our new IDEA Lab’s affordances. This hands-on session will be focused on cost-effective options for incorporating VR elements into your course. Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees.

Health Pedagogy Keynote, “Supporting Students in Distress” Health, Well-Being and Safety Mental Health Initiatives team, presented by Drs. Elizabeth Mondragon, PsyD and CAPS Director and Connie Marmolejo, DrPH and Interim Director of the Well & Mental Health Educator This session, located in the XCITE Commons, is a preview of some of the programming for our Healthy Pedagogy Speaker Series, which will be occurring in Spring 2024. Healthy Pedagogy integrates sincere mindfulness of the health and well-being of instructors and students into course design and the craft of teaching. By fostering caring, creative, and inclusive participation in the classroom and beyond, both teachers and students can experience engaging communities of learning. A full catered lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.

Join us in the XCITE Sandbox for a preview and demonstration of the PERTS Ascend tool, a survey program to gauge student experiences of your classrooms. Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees. Samantha Levine from the The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Student Experience Project (SEP) will be joining us remotely to promote this tool to our UCR instructors. We are hoping to use this as a jumping-off session to begin a small pilot of this tool at UCR

The event has a 25 in-person capacity limit, however, there is an online participation option that is available. We will have coffee and pastries for our in-person attendees.

In this session, located in the XCITE Commons, Professor Keith Vance as well as ITS' Deputy CIO Mike Kennedy will discuss various aspects of the future of AI at UCR. Light refreshments will be provided for in-person attendees. Our guest from ITS will be happy to stay around for a half hour after the session to assist attendees with getting started with Google Bard and other available tools.
