Overview
The Accessibility Team (A-Team) is a student-powered group dedicated to assisting instructors in making digital content more accessible. Based within the XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning, we partner with faculty to ensure that course materials meet the needs of every learner.
Our Purpose
To establish a campus‑wide, sustainable, measurable system ensuring that Canvas course sites and associated instructional materials meet ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
How We Can Help
We handle the technical details of accessibility so you can focus on teaching. Our primary objectives are to assess status, remediate materials, and build faculty capacity.
Document Remediation
Fixing PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoints to ensure screen reader compatibility.
Correcting Captions
Reviewing and correcting auto-generated captions for 100% accuracy.
Course Review
Auditing Canvas courses for navigation and design barriers.
Scope of Work
To ensure we can assist as many instructors as possible, we have defined specific boundaries for our support services.
- • Document Remediation (PDF, Word, PPT)
- • Multimedia Captioning & Transcripts
- • UDOIT & YuJa Deployment
- • Faculty Training & Guidelines
- • Personally hosted faculty websites
- • Curriculum redesign (content changes)
- • Individual student accommodation (SDRC)
- • Multiple versions of the same course
The Process
Request Support
Instructors request support through our intake form through Asana.
Tracking & Work
Students are assigned courses to remediate content and it is project managed by XCITE Staff.
Clarification (If Needed)
If the content is ambiguous (e.g., complex charts), we may email you for context.
Leaving Evidence
We fix content sustainably, documenting changes for future terms and only keep the remediated version of your course in the Canvas archives.
