In this session, Katie and Tara will discuss the UC Accessibility (A11Y) Project, a UC Online-funded grant focused on accessibility and disability justice. The project aims to cultivate a collaborative learning community around accessibility and Universal Design for Learning for all interested University of California instructors and staff members through asynchronous Canvas modules, synchronous Zoom meetings, and monthly newsletters. Additionally, strategies to build collaborative teaming and networking related to disability justice initiatives at individual UC campuses will be cultivated and discussed.
Details about the speaker:
Katie Healey is an Education Specialist in Hybrid/Online Pedagogies for the Center for Educational Effectiveness at UC Davis. She is also a Deaf and disability historian and a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
Tara Mason is the Universal Design for Learning Consultant at UC Berkeley, working as a faculty development consultant. Tara has a background in disability studies, special education teacher preparation, and K-12 special education teaching, coaching, and providing professional development.
